Hi Peggie, can I do without a vented loop?

Peggie I'm halfway through installing a Sea Era, on fresh water, piped directly to a 16 gal tank, with a diverter on the discharge going to either the deck pumpout, or through a Whale Gusher 10, to the thru-hull seacock. The thru-hull is just below the water line. The discharge line comes off a standpipe from the top of the tank, which is also just about at the water line. So the entire discharge is darn near horizontal as it runs through the Y valve and the whale gusher to the thru Hull. Since I "should" be closing the seacock at all times except when I'm pumping out, can I get away without a vented loop? Or will I be fighting an adverse flow the entire time I'm pumping out? The bottom of the sandpipe is about 24" below the thru hull. Thanks, Hugh Franklin

ABYC standards require one on all below-waterline

A surveyor will insist on it. But I'd put one in anyway...'cuz if you should leave the seacock open, you can flood your tank with seawater resulting in a backup in the toilet.

For a mere $9.49, why not put one in? You can't buy cheaper insurance. Jim
