Can you recommend a business that does stainless steel welding? I have a couple of stanchions that need to be repaired. My inner tightwad has opted to repair rather than replace.

Gee, Tammy

With all of the boat builders up there there should be someone who can do the work. I have a friend who had a boat built up in Stuben on Dyer Bay. Jason Boats did the boatwork. Maybe you could call Terry for a referral. That is a way from you (up past Bar Harbor), but it may be worth the call. Another place in Portland might be Gowen Marine. Then, more near you, would be Orr Island Marine. You may be better off (cheaper) if you try a metal fabricator (non-marine) in your area. I had some welded by one down here near me. I'm sure there are many more.

Paul, I plan on calling local metal fabricators

I was just hoping that someone could recommend someone. Isn't welding stainless supposed to be tricky? I didn't want to pick someone who said they could do the job and then find out they weren't going to do a good job. You know this area pretty well. Orr's Island would be closest. Ever been to Mackerel Cove?

Mackerel Cove

My wife and I spent a night in Mackerel Cove on Swan's Island with our flotilla during the summer of 2002. I'm part of the Maine Hunter Sailing Association. Bruce Z and Mark M told me that they spoke to you.

The local guys

Tammy, I've managed to break two of mine, but have had a local welder fix them for under 20 bucks. I'm farther downeast where we are even tighter than our mid coast neighbors..
