I am atttempting to install a Transducer cable to the helm instruments. The cable came complete with a large molded terminal at the end. the terminal is too large to fit through the helm pedestal tube. Can I splice this cable? is there a source for a removable end? Where can I get a splice terminal device. The cable has two insulated conductors with a third uninuslated wire.

You can splice it
The plugs are seemingly always too big to get through conduit. The un-insulated wire is usually a shield so don't forget to resplice it too, surrounding the other wires. I have used marine grade Butt connectors, then further sealed them with liquid electrical tape,just to be sure everything stays dry. Life would be easier if manufacturers could find a way to include the plugs separate from the cabling...

Splicing wires
If it's simply a 3 conductor wire, there's no reason you can't splice it. If it is shielded that can be a little more complicated, but still doable. Remember you're in harsh environment, I wouldn't recommend simple crimp connectors and electrical tape. All the connections should be soldered and shrink wrapped to prevent corrosion and water intrusion. I've added a web site with every piece of electronic / connector / all things electrical... They'll definately have what you need. The only problem is, they have too much stuff and it may take a while to find what you're looking for. If it's a common everyday connector, you may just be able to go to Radio Shack and pick it up. Another option is to just pull the pins on the connector, if you have a pin puller or the connector is even a type where you can pull the pins, and reinsert them once the wire has been pulled through. Just make sure you stick them back in the right holes. Good luck.

...but the instructions said "NO SPLICING" except for the wind instrument. So I would read all of the directions first. The instruments nowdays have the cable head connectors on them that plug right into the instrument head's back side. Plan your job ahead of time to accommodate the change. I ran into the same thing when I ran the TD's for depth and speed. I thought I'd follow the same route, but couldn't. Only one place, I had to remove the old wires to make room for the plug. Then I was able to fish the old wires (without the heads) back into the run. See if you can do that.

Raymarine told me splices are fine as long as they are properly done, enen though their manual instructions say no splices
