Back in late '08 when I started repairing Pronto I found rotted core under the mast step.
So not wanting to tear up too much of the cabin top and with only rudimentary fiber glassing skills I decided to just cut out the mast step area and fill it in with fiberglass.
But the problem was that the mast step was essentially an island and not connected the rest of the cabin top and it showed up after last summer while sailing. The port side of the tabernacle was sinking again. Part of the problem was also that the compression post is not centered under the mast.
So I decided to make the mast step one with with the cabin top
I marked off the area that I figured would remove the wet core. I eventually had to slightly enlarge it.
I used a dremel and cut out around the outside then with my Bosch Panel Trimmer cut away.
Then I filled it in with fiberglass and epoxy then covered and finished it with Evercoat Formula 27.
Then painted and installed the tabernacle and wiring.
