Jay, Hope you're still running around out there and looking at the site. I've got a question you or some of our other Dallas/Ft Worth based sailors might have an answer for: I've (my wife) decided we should keep our boat in a marina instead of trailering it for a while. That's no problem, there's plenty of slips around here for sure; but my problem is with bottom painting. It seems that everyone I've talked to about having this done is convinced that I'm a millionaire! Minimum price I've been quoted for a 24 footer is $1100. Now, I'm all for people making money; but it takes a gallon of paint, a gallon of primer and some cleaning stuff (all about 200 bucks). Do you know anyone around here (Dallas) that does it cheaper? Or is there a do it yourself marina that I can do it myself? Thanks,

You wana be a millionaire?

Mark: If you are just talking about bottom paint, that is way out of line, unless you are talking about the Senate and Congress doing it for you. This must be for a total removal of whatever is on the bottom plus putting on a barrier coat and then a couple of coats of bottom paint. We have our H'31 repainted in Ca. for about $500. This is a pull, power wash, paint, labor, misc materials, zincs, environmental fees and the splash.

Steve speaks true...

Mark, Try Comming Marine here on Hubbard. Robert owns the place and will service your bottom (??) for about $500. And Hubbard's not a bad lake and we could use a few more Hunters. Comming Marine 214-341-1626. Ask for Robert. Greg H23 Faster-

Thanks!

Thanks! That's about what I expected to pay for it. They make some money and I don't have to refinance my home!:) It ought to be easy. My boat is brand spanking new so just needs to be dewaxed, primed and painted. I'll make a call today. Mark

Just one more thing.

Mark: If you are going to leave it in the water. Then you should consider have the barrier coat done. I have not had to go through this process but I think that the price tag to do this after you have applied bottom paint is going to be a lot more. This is your call. Just remember that bottom paint does NOTHING for blisters. Only a barrier coat is going to HELP protect you. I think that they recommend a 10 mil barrier. This is usually about two coats. Based on this, everything being equal, $600 for a barrier seems a little steep but I do not know what it costs.
