I haven't experienced any issues since I replaced the Jabsco with a new one two years ago........and then, this weekend my Jabsco bowl kept filling with water! This was first apparent when the whole bowl overflowed onto the floor in the head. First of all, I couldn't believe it filled that high, as it is above the waterline of the boat! Secondly, it was - fortunately - clear water. After the second pump out to a dry bowl (which helped fill the holding tank, of course), we shut off the water intake valve and that solved the issue. Where do I start with problem solving 101? Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions are always welcome from the EXPERT!! We have thoroughly enjoyed your book, and gave the extra copy to some friends. However, after a quick review, I found nothing about my problem, so I am consulting the specialist. THANKS!!!

That's an easy one: failed wet/dry valve

A VERY common problem in Jabsco manual toilets. (And btw, it is in the book--FAQ page 54 "why does my toilet fill up with water all by itself.") If you look at the exploded drawing for the toilet, you'll see that the wet/dry valve is just a little doodad that either blocks the flush water intake in the dry position or swings open in the wet position. A lot of 'em hang, creating backpressure in either the wet or dry mode...some of 'em fail altogether--the lever no longer moves it into the closed position. And now you know why you should never leave seacocks open when you leave the boat. Open head seacocks sink more boats in their slips than any other cause. Call Jabsco for a replacement wet/dry valve. Install a vented loop in the head intake that's at least 8-12" above the waterline at any angle of heel. It cannot go between the thru-hull and the pump--that'll prevent the pump from priming...it has to go between the pump and the bowl.
