a question. If you were in the southern pacific ocean off the coast of Chile at latitude 53d42m S and longitude 85d21m W what course would you steer to reach Ken? Now the question , If when you got to his position and found his boat, he had been rescued and his boat was abandoned would you: A. put two or three of your crew on board to survey the damage and attempt repairs? B. say what a shame and waste and go on? C. If you succeeded in getting a crew onto the boat and repairs were feasable would you claim salvage rights?

If weather was good...

at the time and the boat was salvageable, I'd lash on a tow line and get the boat back to Ken.

I'd salvege it

If the captain left the ship he must have thought that it was not salvageable. The international rules clearly describe this situation and I'd take advantage of the poor sap's lack of seamanship skills. Sailing is repleat with examples of "sailors" leaving their ships only to have the ship survive and the sailor die in his/her life raft. Ken is clearly a worthy sailor and I'd not expect to either be able to find the ship due to it having sunk or find only flotsam and an oil slick.
