I had a response which I thought would help but still I am not sure. I have a Hunter 19. I am trying to put the mast up single handed. The book is not clear and I know nothing about Hunters. I hope I can explain this correctly...
I have a gin pole and two bridal wires. I am thinking wires keep the mast from swaying. OnceI get the mast in position, I place the gin pole into the base of the mast. I thought I needed to attach the two wires/shrouds one end to the gin pole and one end to holes in the mast. My problem, should one end be in the mast but would the other go to the side shrouds?
This would mean the gin pole would have two round ends through it at the top. Do I then attach either the jib wire or main to one rounded end and then attach a block and tackle to the front one shackled down to the anchor well. I just need some clarity, I was told if done wrong the pole would bend and the mast could fall. Thank you for any direction... Please assume I know nothing... Dan:cry:

Raising is easy!

I'm not sure what year you have but, please refer to this manual page: http://www.ayesail.net/sailing/MainSailingPage.html
If it is like my 1995 H26 then this is what I do.
Once you get the mast pushed back and attached to the mast base, you need to attach the bridles/side stays. The curved ends attach to holes in the mast. You’ll have to turn it to just the right angle to get in the hole. Now attach the other end to the loop welded on the stanchion on that side. Attach the JIB halyard, not the front shroud, to one of the loops in the cable on the gin pole. Attach the main sheet to the padeye in the anchor well and then to the other loop. Stand the gin pole up and into the hole in the mast. Pull on the jib halyard at the point where it comes out of the mast, pull until the gin pole is leaning back a bit. Fasten the jib halyard where it comes out of the mast TO THE CLEAT ON THE MAST. Try and position the side shrouds as best you can so the turn-buckles don’t bend at the rubrail. Sit with your feet in the anchor well and start pulling the main sheet. When you get it to the point where it gets relatively easy to pull, stand up and check the turnbuckles at the rubrail to prevent bending the turnbuckles, if you don't you WILL bend them. When you get the mast up, if you haven’t leaned the gin pole back far enough, you will run out of mainsheet and the pullies will be touching. Just lower it back down and do it again. Now attach the front shroud. You may have to pull pretty hard to get it in position. Put in the pin to attach the front shroud to the attachment point at the bow and then pop the mainsheet loose. Disconnect the main sheet and jib halyard from the gin pole and undo the jib halyard at the mast. Now disconnect the bridles and roll them up into a coil. PUT THEM IN THE ANCHOR LOCKER ! This will keep you from raising or lowering the mast without them and then spending a lot of money on welding or even a new mast. Just ask around about that!
