I assume your talking about the line falling down off the winch drum and jamming on the base/mount.

I too would say too many wraps on the winch overfills drum and allows line to slip...

Try just 2 or 3 on the drum and then hook on tailer...Looks like you have one on tailer, three on drum and 2 extea falling off base...

54's are a fair size winch. Has this problem just started or was it always there???

Looks like there are 2 turns around the drum , one around the self tailing and 1-1/2 that slipped off to the bottom of the drum.

I put 2 new winches on my boat last year and the one thing they all emphasized was to make sure the entry angle of the line is between 8 and 10 degrees. Anything less will cause the problems you are seeing.

Did you change anything??

Maybe you are winding too many turns, like the others have said?

Yours look identical to my 461: Beneteau folks failed when they designed the deck hardware; there is no fair lead for the jib leads from the cheek block to the winch. I have learned to live with it where I put in a single wrap on the winch while tacking and the jib sheet is loose and being brought in. Once there is tension, I add more wraps and lock the self tailer.

If you put multiple wraps on the winch and start bringing the sheet in, the whole thing slides down to the base of the winch (the cheek block is angled that way)

Fair winds!

I had same problem with 343, even with just 2 or 3 wraps. Took the line out of the cam cleats just forward of the winch - too steep if an approach. The only problem since is no way to secure line if I want to free up winch. Also watch you don't get too much slack or throw the line completely off - it will sometimes come up under the cleat.
