Help with a Mariner 9.9 long shaft 2 stroke manual

May need new motor! I got my boat stuck in some mud got her unstutck! sailied her 1.5 miles down stream and my 9.9 2 stroke motor seized! Ugh! I was in the middle of the barge lanes! I waved down an inflatable (14 plus ft). Kinda funny! too see a 14ft inflatabe pulling a 20ft sailboat!
Have a friend helping with the motor and a manual coming to fix her but my concern is she worth the work! The lower unit was dry! would it be best to get a new motor! I do not want to miss out on some awesome sailing! Trees are moviing now!! Driving me nuts! Lol!

A new 9.9 will cost you $3,000 and a used 9.9 might run you $1,000. I would think you can repair yours for less if it just needs cylinder work. If you cracked the lower unit casing, tore up the shaft, bent the crank , bent the rod, and burned the piston too, in other words, cylinder work AND a new lower unit... You may not even be able to find the parts!

It depends on how far down the damage goes.

Sounds like you motor in dicey situations, so I would stick w/ the 9.9, even if it is a little big on a 20'.
