I have a Hunter 235 (fairly new to sailing)...need to rig the jib halyard. Is there an easy way to do that with the mast down this winter? Or should I keep the mast up? Would an electrician's tape work??

If your electrical fish tape is long enough, that would work.

If your old halyard is still in place, you can cut off the eye, then stitch the tail of the new one onto the old. Then pull out the old, and the new follows right along. This will work with the mast up or down.

When I replaced mine, I taped about 10 inches of thin line that electricians use to pull wires through conduit. It's thin enough to not get hung up on the sheaves and strong enough to pull through through without breaking. If it's already out, a fish tape will work, but will take some patience. I just fished a new coax to the VHF and it was a pain. There's probably an easier way.

There are numerous posts in this forum on changing halyards with photos. I used the large paper clip method to connect the old and new halyard together along with electrical tape. Worked well on my H31

Achit, My rigger uses a wire "Chinese finger puzzle" type device that attaches to old & new halyard by tension. You then pull out old hlyd replacing it w/ new. I watched him do it. A lot easier than some of the other methods mentioned, many of which I tried before surrendering to the expert. " ON WISCONSIN, BADGERS !!! " Actually, " GO MARQUETTE, WARRIORS !!"
