I recently brought my Cat 30 up from San Diego. Before launching at the Great Salt Lake Marina I completely buffed and waxed the entire boat. I used a good, hard, carnuba "Mothers Wax". The results are excellent. But, now that I have had the boat berthed for 4 months I have noticed stains on the deck. My boat is white and shows stains well. I tried to clean off the stains using ( 409, Lime Away, various non skid deck cleaners, boat zoap, bleach, soft scrub, rubbing compound, etc...)The only thing that cleans it off is bleach, soft scrub, or rubbing compound. Then I need to rewax! I have done this TWICE. We have a Copper smelter next to us that we believe is causing the problems. Other sailors just let the sun bleach the gel-coat. Or leave the stains on saying it is useless. I am seeking anything that will not let the stain reach the gel coat. Or seal the surface so that it can be cleaned. Can your products do this? Can YOU HELP US!!!

Water Spots

Ron, I lived in Salt Lake about 20 years ago and the same problem was around then. We called it acid rain from the smelter and it was hard on the gel coat as well as stainless and alum. There was no cure and the boats suffered. The fiberglass held up better than the rest of the boats. My solution was to sail on Utah Lake near Provo and Bear Lake (Idaho Utah boarder). Both are seasonal, but your boat will hold up better. The only product that you may find to help your problem is made by Island Girl. They have a wed site at www.islandgirlproducts.com. I'm now doing a beta test on a new non-skid product from Island Girl that shows promise. All products are a cleaning and coating products and I would think that they may offer some help. I plan to try their entire line this spring. Good Luck

Good test for ISLAND GIRL

Seems that the problem you encountered would be a good test. Please e-mail me at www.IslandGirlProducts.com with a mailing address and e-mail contact address. Gratis I will send you some of the our products to try. Incidentally, here on the windward Oahu we get staints on stainless and chrome. I have found that Superwax protects chrome so that water beads and corrosion is inhibited. You may try the non-skid sealant on a small area of deck after cleaning (our products should outperform the others that you mentioned). Then let me know in the spring so that your results can be added to those of the other beta-testers. While there are no gaurantees, I think that if the products work in your case they will likely work in a variety of less severe cases. Thanks Jim Willis Jim Willis
