Exactly what is required to wire a PC w/navigation software, Garmin 48 and Navico 300CX autopilot together. Also want to hook the GPS to the battery source too so we do not have to depend on batteries.
Garmin makes a connector kit for my GPSIII, so I assume they do for the model 48. My kit came with a 12VDC "convenience" outlet plu that allows me to use the 12VDC on-board. I bought a multiplexor that is mounted behind the electrical panels. It has four inputs and one output. The output goes to the NEMA in on the autopilot. I have the GPS NEMA out wired to one multiplexor input and the NEMA out from the autopilot also wired to an input. The output of the multiplexor is wired to the input of the PC serial port and the output of the PC serial to the output line of the multiplexor.Check out Nautical Tecknologies web site http://www.thecapn.com/. They have some pretty good schematics that are pretty generic in nature.BryceS/V Spellbinder
If you give me a call I can explain exactly how to do this. I used to be a marine electronics installation tech in Ft. Lauderdale, and done this type of thing many times. Call Scott May @ (228)-539-4992 , if no answer leave message.
