Help! Termites in my boat!

Soon after purchasing my '78 Hunter 27 earlier this year, I noticed a few termite wings and dead termites in a few areas in my boat. I know the dock suffers from termite problems, and always figured that these were swarmers that found their way in through the nicro, but died trying to establish a home. I had heard that Teak is too hard for drywood termites. Today on the boat, I found about 20 alive swarmers that just seemed to appear out of nowhere, and upon further examination, found some droppings, which seem to confirm my worst fears that there are termites aboard! Has this happened to anyone? How does one go about fumigating a sailboat! Or are there other options for control? Is it possible that termites have made their way into the core, and how would one even go about checking the integrity of key structure?

Hi Jon, if it were my boat I would hire a good...

surveyor to check my boat out. He or she should have some treatment suggestions based on what they find. Well worth the money. Depending upon the damage, if any, I would contact my insurance company just to keep them in the loop and in case you need to file a claim. Terry Terry

Time for TERMINEX!

That's what I would do. But then, we don't have termites up here. Just carpenter ants. Good luck
