We are owners of the new 320 Hunter. She is only four months old and already rust on the Bimini post and also the "piece" that holds the wheel in place. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? We now have a pedestal cover that might prevent it from getting worse but how do we remove what is already there and the Bimini will only get worse. Thanks so much for any suggestions you might offer. Carol

Rust on Stainless Steel

Carol, All stainless, no matter how well made, has microscopic inclusions of ferrite and it is these that rust. A quick wipe over with a sink or bathroom cleaner usually removes these quite easily. Then, after a year or two there are no more inclusions near the surface so the rusting stops. However it must be said that the better the stainless the less the effect. If it is really bad then you have not got proper stainless and should take it up with the makers. Regards,

Rust

Sounds too easy, but always rinse with fresh water after sailing. If you keep the salt off the stainless, it will still rust some, but takes a lot longer.

3M

We use 3M metal restorer & polish. It seems to protect the longest of the products we tried. Jim "Prospect"

No Rust

We have had our 320 in the Columbia River since last June. Living in Portland, we get lots of rain. And guess what - no rust! I imagine we'll get some at some point, but being in a salt water area may be the culprit in your case.
