I have refurbished '84 Seidelmann 245. I have no help but finally figured out how to raise the mast by myself- got the boom on and raised the main sail. I have sailed several smaller sailboats, but they did not have so many lines etc. coming out and around various places- two lines inside the boom; I have no idea what they do. The traveler is there ready for action but don't know the correct way to hook it up. Have three head sails with furling and have not tried to install them.... Are there any written instructions available for the rigging of this boat? It is sitting on a trailer in my back yard and almost ready for a shakedown cruise, But I still have these details to work out first... I would appreciate any enlightenment on the subject. Many Thanks, Ron Snipes 104 Springdale Drive Bennettsville, SC 29512 843-479-8585 rsnipes29512@yahoo.com

Some answers, I hope.

I, too, have no written instructions for how to rig & spent much of the last two years in trial and error (and walking around viewing other boats). Just as TomCat said, the lines coming out of the boom (not the wire--which is the outhaul) are your jiffy reefing; they will be rigged through two grommets on the leach of your main sail and will allow you to reduce the amount of main you fly when you are in heavy wind. My traveler was mostly already assembled when I bought the boat, and I have not had to mess with that too much--just attaching it to the runner. As far as raising the mast goes, congratulations! The previous owner used the spare headsail halyard and a pulley under the pulpit to hoist our mast (keeping the forward pin in to attach the foot of the mast to the deck). However, the process looks so dicey that my husband and I have just paid to have the mast stepped and unstepped when we need. I wish I could be more help. I will post some pictures--especially of the traveler--here when I can. (Perhaps next weekend if we can get to the marina.)
