When raising the mast on my Hunter 23 (1984 model)you must keep it at a steep angle until the first pin is in. This can be difficult to do while trying manipulate the mast to get the pin to go in. I have seen a device for Catalinas that fits on the rudder mount and supports the mast until the mast is in the step. Is there such a thing for My boat? I tried to make my own but ran into problems because of the angle of the stern. Grif

Its called a crutch

Grif, The boat came with a crutch that extends up for when the mast is to be raised, and down for when it is to be trailored. You can have a machine shop make one. It fits where the rudder goes. And the rudder comes off, for trailoring and also supports the mast.
