I am going to ask a silly question. Are you supposed to use the winch to raise the centerboard because it seems very difficult to do.

Yes.
It's heavy 100lbs plus and you have a small fulcrum . If the line has expanded . Ie 1/2 inch . It will be harder still. It's easier when you are moving.

The center board was appx 100 lbs but as MaxinCalgary pointed out, it may be difficult which may require the winch. However, may I suggest you look up into the centerboard housing when the boat is out of the water on the trailer to make sure nothing is fouling it for example barnicales, debri, marine growth and so on. make sure the centerboard line is 7/16 not 1/2 and is not binding anywhere. Keep us posted.

I use the winch. Not only easier but safer. I keep the spinlock in the locked position so it can't come tumblin' down again.

Like the green critter, I keep the CB uphaul line in the closed Spinlock. Most of the time, I don't use the winch. From the cockpit, I brace one foot against the cabin bulkhead and pull! If there is no obstruction It goes up pretty easily without pulling with my back. I'm only using my big-ass weight and legs to pull. This method lets me know If I have any obstruction. If I need the extra umph, I use the winch. BrianW
