Our waterline needs to be re-done. The previous owner had raised the bottom paint into it, and what's left is quite faded. We are going to attack the project this spring. I plan on painting, in part due to the widening of the water line in the stern. In part due to the ability to touch up down the road if required. In part because I think it will look and last better than vinyl. The question is, what kind of paint should I use? What kind of thinning and flow additives, if any, should I use if I plan on brushing? We are stored too close to other boats to chance spraying - although we could build some kind of temporary curtain?? (My father had a reputable shipyard raise his waterline several years ago, and they brushed it. Couldn't tell from 5 feet away) Lots of questions! What does experience say? Jeff Jones

Jeff

Jeff, I raised my Boot Stripe and Air painted it. If you have a small air compressor and a touch up or spot gun you don't have to worry about over spray. It sure looks better than a brush. We sanded the area to be painted with 200 grt. Washed with acetone," be quick and do until cloth is clean". Than we used good exterior paint it's only sold through marines,"can't remember the name". Still looks great starting it's 3rd year.

Pad it

Want to do it really easy, use a paint pad. The type sold for cut in. Just size it for your stripe, sand, wipe and tack. Works great,no brush marks. Good luck red
