Help needed-my boom falls off the gooseneck.

I bought a used Catalina 34, and have sailed it at least a dozen times with no problems. Now, all of a sudden, my boom falls off the gooseneck when the main is down. The boat has a safety vang and a new North Sail that does not feed into the track. The topping lift is missing, and has been. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or what I need to do to fix it?

Falling Boom

Lynnette; My C36 has a large pin that holds the boom on. It requires a cotter pin, (or a split ring) through one end to keep it from falling out. I'm not sure of the diameter of this pin, but it's 5/16", or 3/8". Hope this helps. Michael
