Help, I need a stormsail for my O'day 22. I find myself sailing on the edge alot and my jib, which I think is actually a 110 genny, is way too much. When things really start to blow I really reef my main down, but with the jib up, I still have too much sail. If I drop my jib and sail under main alone, I have no lift. I have permission to chop up my brothers spencer 35s extra mainsail, but I need some sort of dimentions. Help....

Hi Doug; My 22 O'Day centerboard easily gets overpowered in moderate winds and the foresail is the first thing to get reefed. I fly a utility jenny up forward on a old CDI furler. With a furler, I just dial the 100 % sail back to 60% and she points decently, while still having the mainsail working efficiently with some draft off the headsail. A furler's alot easier to use instead of going forward and hanking on a storm sail. And i'm not sure if they make a storm sail small enough for a 22 O'day that isn't like a regular headsail for a smaller boat like a Laser -2 or O'day Mariner. Happy sailing! Hi Doug, My '76 O22 has only it's working jib (100')and in the blasting winds of the Spokane area I have always felt it was the jib that threatened the boat, not the main. I will cleat off the main but never the jib if the winds are strong. I thought I was nuts but apparently not. I'm very interested in getting a furler for the problem. I trailer sail and am concerned that set-up will be a hassle, but since I strictly single-hand it's probably worth the inconvenience. I dragged my boat over your way a couple years ago-can't remember the name of the lake just West of Riffe Lake. It was really windy there! Where do you sail?

Storm Jib for 22-footer
The storm jib for my O'Day 222 (that's the "Two-Twenty Two) measures: Luff = 24 ft, Leech = 9 ft 9 in, Foot = 6 ft. (The 222 is a fractional rig; you may be able to use this Website to compare specs. vs. your O'Day 22.) I bought my boat, used, last Aug. and traded the sail to Allegro Sails, 3013 30th St., Kenosha, WI 53144, Ph 262-652-2048. The sail is really "like new." (Former owner may have used it once.) It's a Neil Pryde, tripple-stiched. A beautiful sail with bag. Perhaps Allegro still has the sail on-hand and could make a good deal? (I believe that you can Google "Neil Pryde Sails" to find Allegro's Website.)
