HELP.......NEED REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION

I must find a replacement transmission. Unfortunately, the previous owner neglected this boat, allowing water flooding the engine well. Water must have gotten into the tranny via the dip stick. The tranny hanging on my Universal Diesel, model 5411(M15), in my '83 Catalina 30 is a Hurth HBW-50.
Where in the world could I find a used, or rebuilt tranny?

They show up on eBay now and then, nothing there right now though. Hurth HBW 5, 50, or ZF 5 are all the same unit. ZF bought Hurth out years ago.

Have you tried Beta Marine? It would be a new part. Beta has a very good reputation...

Can't remember what trans Beta uses, but they're built by some one else. What ever you use, it has to fit the bell housing, which the Beta unit might not. And Beta's not building anything based on the Kubota Z500 block, so their bell housing might not fit the engine. Adapter plates can be made, but that just adds to the complications.

ZF10 is one inch longer but bolts up fine. I got mine from TransPacific Distributers.

Emmett I purchased my rebuilt M5414 (same footprint as M5411) from Schooner Bay Marina (1-715-779-3266) (holzralf@schoonerbaymarinallc.com). Ask for Alfred, he might have a transmission.

I spoke to Rick at Eastcoast. He says the ZF10 is gone now-replaced by ZF12. Also prefers to not rebuild the HBW50 'cuz aftermarket parts are not of good quality. Anyone else care to comment

the HBW-100 was an issue lengthwise for me. I had my HBW-50 rebuilt and the rebuild was done with original factory parts including a new thrust bearing.. that's the important bit.. My guy provides a 1 year warranty too.. Let me know if you want his contact info, i was really happy with the service.
