Hi, My husband and I recently purchased a '96 16.5 Capri. We live on a lake that is very shallow in front of our house. The area that we can safely keep the boat in is only 3'-4' deep. We really can't moor it out much deeper as someone might run into it at night. Our problem is that with heavy wind, the boat whips back and forth and has tipped over twice!! Outside of getting a boat lift for it, are there any suggestions for mooring it. We have it attached to a heavy enough weight with 25' of chain that is rated for 800 pounds. Thanks.

"Mooring" a Capri 16.5

At least yours tips over in the water! We do not have much of a suggestion, but warn you that in heavy winds our boat took off WITH THE TRAILER and tipped over - rather hard on the mast, topsides, and deck. Right on the seawall ... If your boat is sailing on bare pole back & forth, you might try a sea anchor to restrain it. Attach a large brick or part of a concrete block to the stern by line so that the boat drags it around and does not sail up to the mooring. Or use a cloth cone, etc that will not damage the boat. Another alternative is fore & aft mooring if the heavy winds usually come from a general direction. We love our 16.5 and are just sick with the damage. Hopefully we can be up and sailing soon.
