A couple of ways
I saw the "regarding O'Day 12" and figured this was going to be fairly simple, oh well! Anyway, to find the age of your Widgeon is fairly easy if she was built after Nov. 1, 1972. If she was, there will be a Hull I.D. Number molded into the outside of the transom and the last 2 numbers in that HIN will be the model year of the boat. Since you have asked about the year, I will assume that your boat is older than 1973 model year. In that case, it is not so easy. The older (pre-Nov. 1, 1972) boats had a metal plate riveted onto the interior of the boat, on the Widgeons that were built before 1971 model year, the plate was on the aft side of the forward seat/flotation tank. I'm not sure where the plate was on the 1971-72 models, but it should be either at the forward end of the cockpit or on the inside of the stern. In either case, for boat built prior to 11/01/72, there will be 2 number on that plate, a Hull# and a Class#. The Hull# refers to total number of boats (all models) built by O'Day. The Class# refers to how many of that model (Class), in this case Widgeon. For Reference, my 1969 Widgeon was Hull# 22698 and Class# 1791, in other words she was the 22698th O'Day built, and the 1791st Widgeon.
