I just put my newly acquired O'Day 22 in the marina for the first time and found that after only two days I had water above the sump hole. It was pumped out before I put it in. I just bottom painted the whole boat and did not see anything that looked like an area that water could enter. Does anyone have any similar experience or ideas?

water

did it rain, if so look around ports and deck fittings, or pull boat out on trailer, fill boat with water and look outside for leaks, also, and more likely, check the keel bolt and rubber washers/seals that may have died of old age. check with dr marine or make new out of rubber, tire side wall, etc. another point would be where the keel cable comes thru the bottom. ruff wave action can force water up this tube.

Check your cockpit drain and hose.

You could be draining your cockpit right into your bilge. r.w.landau

forgot to mention...

forgot to mention. It did not rain in the two days. This is the shoal keel, no moving parts.

Rob, check the cockpit drain,

drain hose and the connection at the thru hull. Water can come in the thru hull and into a bad hose directly into the bilge. r.w.landau

Plastic thru-hull fitting

The thru-hull fitting that came the boat from the factory, was plastic. Afew years ago I read an article about all the sinkings from this type of fitting. It was said, that one should check for cracking. If cracking was found, it needed to be replaced "now". The replacement should be the bronze type sold at boatus, or west marine stores. If this is not the problem, the only thing left I can think of, is the cockpit drain. This is a real fun one, to get at. You have to get to the back, through the port bunk, or in the cockpit locker. Being small, and thin is a big plus, for this task. Having a second person, with a garden hose, to spray water, while you check from inside is a big help. Hope this puts you in the right area. Let us know how you made out. Jim G. s/v: Dream Maker

Plastic thru-hull fitting (Part-2)

Rob, Don't forgot to check the hose from the thru-hull, to the sink drain. Do this by watching that area, while you drain a full sink of water. make sure you are using a good flashlight. Your problem could be as simple as, a loose hose clamp. Fair winds, Jim G. s/v: Dream Maker

another way to look for leaks

Use some 'sidewalk' chalk and draw a line under where there maight be leaks. The water will wash away the chalk as it flows past showing you where it's coming form. Good luck.
