NOT an O'DAY!
Looks like a SAILSTAR Boat, if 17' long, she will be either an EXPLORER or PIONEER, difference will be the centerboard, if fiberglass and lever-operated she is an Explorer, if steel and operated by a winch, she is a Pioneer.
However, the sheer line looks more like the smaller, 14' Sailstar TALLSTAR.

I am 99.9% sure that this boat is a Sailstar, built in the 1960's in West Warwick, RI. They do look a lot like the DS I (in fact, O'DAY unsuccesfully sued Sailstar over the Explorer/Pioneer design) but were designed by Robert Baker, not Uffa fox/George O'Day. As I say, length will tell which model.

Y'know, Sunbird, I was a-lookin' at the OP's pic, and looking at the sheer in the bow, thinking it may not have been an Day Sailer. Too much sheer in the bow... But the cuddy looked similar, not pointed in the front like a Tanzer.

I shoulda waited for you :D

Well, the SAILSTARs DO look an awful lot like the same vintage O'DAY DS! Hence the lawsuit O'Day brought against them for their Explorer. I actually had the good fortune to find a DS I sitting right next to a Pioneer at a boat storage yard....... let's see if I can find the pictures that I took. The Pioneer is really just an Explorer with a steel centerboard in place of the fiberglass one)

Not sure what the story is about that Pioneer's transom.... maybe some delamination? Anyway, DS I is the one with the turquiose deck and cuddy. The Pioneer has the light blue deck. cockpit on the Sailstars were shallower to make them self-bailing.

I also added a pic and a drawing of a Tallstar for comparison.

Sailstar Tallstar lakes of VT
Hi Jim --

If you do have a Tallstar there, I am interested in what the scupper cover consists of. My Tallstar's cover had some kind of rubber pad between a metal flap and the hull, and the rubber (if that's what it was) has rotted. I need to figure out another solution, and maybe your boat has been updated with something that could work for mine??? Who knows. If it is a Sailstar boat, you should find a tiny metal tag saying so, mounted under the cuddy.
