On the upper right hand corner of the transom, there should be a Hull Identification Number (HIN). The first three letters will be the manufacturer's ID, the rest will be the model, the hull number and the manufacturing date.

Search online for HIN decoder and decode the HIN.

Hello jjkaufmann2 and welcome to the Sailboat Owners' site,

Was the boat registered in your state? There appear to be shadows of registration numbers on the starboard bow. If it was registered numbers and letters and probably a registration sticker would have been on each side of the bow. The registration numbers and letters would not change as owners changed as long as the boat remained registered in the same state. There should also be paperwork with the boat verifying that registration. The previous owner may have that information.

Also, what year, make, and model did the seller say the boat was?

Best Wishes.

Thanks @31seahorse. No registration sticker. Last two of the numbers are NV, so perhaps Nevada? I’m in Indiana and was purchased here. It was a barn-find though...so no paperwork, title, etc. I’m gonna try to find the serial number in the transom as suggested above and see if that gets me anywhere.

The Luger sailboats were often, if not always, originally sold as kit-built boats. I think many of the smaller boats were shipped with the deck inverted and inside the hull to save shipping size. Luger boats should be described on the web and would be interesting to research. You might need to register the boat as "home built" if you put a motor on it.
