I have just finished my 1st season with a hunter 27'/yanmar sb8. Recently, when in forward gear and heading into the wind my Morse shift lever is slides back into neutral. When the wind is behind me this does not happen. If I push the shift lever back into the forward I have to hold it. The engine runs fine and the sift works great other than the fact that it slips out of forward gear. Reverse seems fine. I even thought of putting a clip on it to keep it from sliding backward. This seems to work fine, but a bit of a pain. Is this a function of the morse control? I have the manual from from morse, but I think they were bought up by telex. I am wondering if there is some sort of de-dent that is not holding the shift lever in forward position. Anyone had a similar problem? thanks

Cable slipping

Sounds like the interior cable is slipping, which is no catastrophe. Install a stainless steel crimp down below where the cable runs along the engine. By "crimp," I'm referring to a small U-shaped bolt with fingerlike clamp. Tighten down the nuts incrementally until the throttle holds securely. It's that simple.

thanks for your suggestion

thanks, sounds like a good idea. Had the boat hauled tonight...end of season...school starts on Monday! Short summer this year. My weekends are busy in the fall and hurricanes in this area reak havoc.
