I just added gennaker halyard to my 430 and I want to buy and provide attachements for a cruising gennaker or asymmetric Spinnaker. Two questions: how does the sail attach aft? (no flat spots for pad eye or blocks) Does it attach to the stern pulpit? Seems like it would'nt take the load. Also, is there a place to buy stock sails of this type? North want a fortune to make them. Thanks, Al

check the chandlery here

There's a tab at the top of the home page - you can order one with a click of your mouse. As for the snatch aft blocks, is there a fitting at the base of your stanchions that will work? You certainly wouldn't want to use anything above the base, but that should be secure enough to work for you. Adding a padeye and backing plate would probably be a better solution, although a pain in the !@#$%.

Aft spinnaker fastenings

Albert, I don't know if your 430 is similar to mine, but I have two flat spaces a little aft of the center of the cockpit, on both starboard and port sides. In my case, I've mounted two winches there, so that I can tend to the jib sheets when I have a full cockpit, so I don't have to disturb anyone - can handle the sheets from the wheel. I have hull number 42. Pete S/V KAILANI

An alternative

Or you could run the lines through the snatch blocks back to the winches already atop the cabin, for no expense except the blocks. This may not be practical on such a big boat, but it works on the 29.5.

Albert...We fly our North gennaker on our 430

as Bill O suggests in his post. Works great for us an another 430 in our marina. I looked into adding two winches in the location provided at the aft of the boat, but there were two problems. First was cost, $1500 each for Lumar 42's, and second, the override on the winch going directly from the clew of the sail to a winch. Without a block between and sail and the winch, I was afraid the sheet wouuld override.. Hope this helps Dick McKee S/V Constellation

Look at the lower part of your arch

Our 410 has two places on the lower extremity of either side of the stainless steel arch for snatch blocks. These are perfect for a block to handle the cruising spinnaker.
