Helm seat mounting screws

On my 1999 H-260, the mounting screws on the stern which hold the helm seat secure continue to work loose no mater how much caulk I use to seal with. These are the two screw just above the water line. The hold down screws in the cockpit sole are not a problem. I have added two additional screws and they come loose also, even though I went with a #14 screw. When they come loose the wheel steering cables make a loud poping noise when the rudder is under any load. Anyone else had this problem and how did you correct it?

I have the same problem

I have the same problem with my '99 260 and the screws coming loose. I also tried caulk, but it appears to me that the screws have nothing to bit into. The next time I pull the boat I will do more investigation. I hope someone has already found out how to correct this problem.

Epoxy and re-drill?

Have you considered using some epoxy to seal the original holes and then redrilling. Caulking is not going to so much of anything. Your best solution if you can get behind the area is to use machine screws and washers with locking nuts.
