Hello All - I'll be taking delivery and launching a beautiful 1991 Catalina 28 on St. Pat's day so I need to get acquainted with the folks around here. I had followed HOW religiously (several times daily!) for a number of years as a former Hunter 27 owner, but my search for that "Next Boat" has lead me to this aquisition. I'm both anxious and excited about discovering the Catalina differences. I will likely have many questions about Catalinas in general and the 28 model in particular. So, my first question..... In The Boats section there isn't much detail on the 28 model. All the specs are missing! The boat I'm buying has a fair amount of documentation included that I have not read completely as yet, but things like sail area, displacement, Tall vs. Std. rigs mast height, basic stuff I'm curious about. I have original brochures for the 28 Mk II, but I'm sure that many detail are different. And I gather that Catalina made frequent and ongoing changes during model production runs. Anyone that has interesting details please post them and/or let me know where to find them. Thanks in advance, and again I look forward to following and participating in Planet Catalina.............

Close but no Cigar!

Well, St. Patricks day was great....almost. Jabberwocky was hauled and cleaned at Lake Normanas scheduled on Thursday. The de-riggers did a fine job in taping and labeling everything for the trip and they were ready. I settled up with the riggers, the broker and former owner on schedule. Well, the hauler driver was almost an hour late getting there. It was about two hours to set her on the trailer and secure everything for the 200 mile ride. The trip was pretty straight forward with no suprises, other than being now about 2 hours later than I had expected. When we arrived at her new home it was after 3 PM, and the rigger at that end was reluctant to try to get everything done before dark. He was working alone that afternoon and just to complicate thing a little more it was blowing 30+ out on the point, so discretion dictated that we wait about launching until next week. Disappointing because I have work conflicts so will not be able to get back to the lake until next Friday at the earliest. I had wanted to see at least some of the process. Ah, there will no doubt be other opportunities. I did go aboard while she hung on the travel lift to stow a few items I had brought along. So, five long days to wait for a first sail on my new toy. I will let you know how things go next weekend. Until then. . . . .
