The information I have gotten from following this web site has been instrumental in deciding to purchase a 260 and I thank you for all the great questions and replies. I will be picking up my new 260 some distance away next week and would like any suggestions as to the ideal heigth to the top of the trailer ball. I have a Chevrolet conversion van, which with a Reese hitch seems quite low to me. Thanks for your help. Soon to be skipper of the PattyJ.

Trailer Hitch

I just pulled my H26 home last night for a little spring cleaning. The top of the ball on the hitch of my Durango is 21 inches from the ground. Hope this helps

TRAILER BALL HEIGHT

is as much a function of the trailer as well as the tow vehicle. The tire size of the trailer (height)determines the ball height. You want to have the trailer tounge level or just higher then level.Depending on type of hitch you are using there are lots of options as far as drops and risers for the trailer ball. You just said you had a reese hitch but not what model I will assume it is a class three (at a minimun)reciever type.Any tow hitch shop can set you up with what ever you need as well as the proper size ball (diameter and weight rating)or if you know what you need Walmart type stores also carry all sorts of trailer hitchs and assesories. As important as the ball height the tounge wait is important to towing safely (swaying etc)Check the link to draw tite hitches (below) for lots of good info. I also tow with a conversion van and depending on the trailer you need to make sure the trailer winch post clears the spare tire (if yours is mounted on the rear door)I needed to buy a extended lenght mount for use with one of my trailers. I don't mean to over complicate the issue, but it is almost a custom match depending on trailer and tow vehicle and the good news is once you know what you need it only takes five minutes to install it ! I also think you will be surprized that you van (if full size) is most likely 0.K. without a big step up or down in ball height. Good Luck!

Hitch Hight

I concur with Pete, the most important consideration is to find a hitch that will keep the trailer level. Toung weight should be in the area of 10% of total towed weight (including boat and gear). Welcome to the growing group of 260 owners. Steve Kamp S/V Carolina Girl
