I have ordered an extension for my outboard. I was trying to describe the advantage to my idiot brother in law when I described the one disadvantage the prop will be 5" closer to the bottom he asked a very salient question "What will be the lowest part of the boat?" So a question for anyone with a 23.5 on a trailer, what is the height of the top of the motor mount above the bottom of the centerboard in the up position? The rudder will always be lower when it is down I was just wondering if my depth will now be deeper than the 18".

I think 28 to 29 inches

just a guess but not sure why this was asked.

the 25 inch shaft is good when in following seas in the ocean only in my books
unless you have heavy guys up forward on the deck making the boat look like a dive bomber.

Thanks Dave

So the 25" vs the 20" shaft is not going to add to the draft it sounds like. Not a huge deal but I was curious. Thanks again.

I Wondered Too If It Would Make Less Noise

Under 5" more of water

My experience

Rick,
I have a 23.5 with an extra long shaft (25") Tohatsu 6. With the keel and rudder up the motor is the lowest point in the water. Not by much, and it's generally not a factor although I have had the prop hitting sand while the boat was still floating (getting a good spot at Crab Island).

In any case, I would never go back to a 20" shaft.
