Height of a Vega

Does anyone know the "height" from the bottom of the keel to the highest point (I assume it to be the top of the pulpit), with the mast down. I plan on shipping Cin Cin, V-2184 over to Vlissingen, Netherlands next month. Frank Gallardo__________________________________________________________________

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the quick reply, it seems that "every inch" counts ($$$$). Cin Cin is presently in Key West, Florida, and will be shipped from the Miami area, I bought her originally in Berlin, Germany in 1981, and had her freighted over here in 1984, so she is headed "home". Homeport will be Wyk auf Foehr, in the North Frisian Islands on the Danish border.

Iver,
The shipping agent advises me that securing the mast on top of the boat will cross extra, and therefore the mast and boom will lie "aside" the boat. Also I've noticed that the highest point on my boat is the forward pulpit rather than the stern pushpit. (any chance you could measure that ??) Thanks Frank

Hi Frank

Arhus is on the East Coast of Jutland and plenty of vegas there will be
able to provide a berth etc and very friendly. Just turn up and I am sure
we will sort something ou. Vlissingen is very nice, the start of the canal
system into Holland. Easy route to Cuxhaven so long as your engine is good.

Mabye see you at Arhus

Hielke,
Thanks for the info on "staandemast" (I have logged on with them), I don't speak Dutch, however I speak German, and somehow can or will decipher most of the information. I plan to keep the mast down , in order to avoid any problems, until I arrive in the Cuxhaven, BRD area or Bremerhaven area. I have no idea where the boat will be unloaded in Vlissingen. I am totally unfamiliar with the area. Frank Gallardo, V-2184, Cin-Cin"Hielke van Oostrum" hielke.van.oostrum@... wrote:

Steve,
Cin-Cin is scheduled to be loaded on board for shipment sometime during the week of 24 June. Estimated transit time is 2 weeks. By the time I have her back in the water, and on the way to the islands will probably take a lot more time than I can even guess. So she will in all probability not make it to Jutland in time. "I" might be able to make it. I am going to have to check out a map, as I am not sure where the harbor is. I am only familiar with the island of Fyn, where I normally spend one to two weeks every summer in Falsled near Faborg.

Well, if you leave your mast down, you could do Vlissingen->Amsterdam in 3
days, After Amsterdam you might just as well step the mast.
Amsterdam-> Frysian Islands 2 days (Why didn\'t you ship to Hamburg?)
Although the standing mast route through Holland is designed just for that,
there are a couple of bottle necks (train- and highway bridges) which only
open twice a day or only at night :-(

Alternatively, step the mast in Vlissingen and start sailing 2 days (maybe 1
if you really push) to Den Helder and another day (or 2) to "home" so 4 in
total for a nice trip... (saves you 60 liters of diesel as well)

Tip/advise: Try to get the port-number from your shipping agency (Vlissingen
Harbor, the commercial port that is, is massive!) If you like, I can find
you some telephone numbers of portable cranes in the area (Yellow pages)as
your Vega will be on a flatbed container? Maybe if your lucky the cargo ship
can/will unload her on "the other side" i.e. directly in the water :)
Just let me know, for that crane company.
Let\'s keep in touch, sounds like a nice & entertaining item for the Yahoo!
Vega discussion forum.
Best regards,
Hielke

Hielke,
Thanks for offer of assistance, I am obviously going to need it. I didn't ship it to Hamburg because it was almost $1,500 more in shipping costs, and Vlissingen gives me the opportunity to become acquainted with the canal systems in Holland and BRD. Summer doing the canals, works out to a second vacation for me. ;)
