A Fisher 46, one of twelve made for work in the North Sea and a boat that typifies the term Old Shoe, came into our shop for much work. This thing steers horribly when docking and takes about 200' of radius to turn, IF you can get her to turn at all.

Here's a profile shot:

The shot of her stern shows just how much she needs to go on a slimfast diet:

My Daughter's first thought was of the "Titanic" when she saw this prow:

This damage is from grounding on rocks for over four hours. More than thirty layers of glass eaten through and still she floated.

That gash is more than four inches deeps. This old girl weighs in at 62,000 Lbs. and needs a bow thruster desperately. We have a ton of work to do on her....

That is wonderful for you! Let me see, damage four inches deep : feather out 12:1 is 48 inches That makes a cone 4 inches deep an 96 inches in diameter equals about 8 cubic feet of glass and resin. That is one hell-of-a-patch. That equals how many sanding disks?

I figured that wrong, it will be closer to 6 cubic feet of glass and resin.

Bow Thruster

With that full keel, windage and smallish barn-door rudder, she really does need a bow thruster.

Always liked the Fisher though. Maybe the same reason I have a Jaguar...

Do they leak oil too?

I thought this was the beginning of a joke.

A heavey cruiser walks into a bar...

When I first scrolled to this image, I thought is a map of a Caribbean island. And I'm not kidding.

Zee, I kinda doubt it. He's 82 and looking to sell her. We're bringing her to Bristol before she goes up for grabs.

Two axle trailer???

62,000 pounds on a two axle trailer? And the trailer weighs something too.

If I may ask, out of curiosity, do you know which rocks? I'm sure somewhere in or around the San Juans but in that condition maybe closer to home.

We haven't had any significant winds lately so did he just run aground? Peavine Pass near Obstruction Island?

I've always loved the look of the Fisher pilothouse. That boat would be right at home up on the cold waters of Lake Superior, especially in the early spring and late fall when you could put the pilothouse to good use. It would look even better sitting in my slip!

Beautiful ship ! I have seen a couple down in the south, here, but they were rigged for hot weather use with mega air conditioners and generators and stuff to keep ya from having to go outside in the numerous thunderstorms..

There was a...

small Fisher moored in Georgetown on the Sassafras for several years past. A unique and attractive boat. According to the owner at the time, truely a motor-sailor--but what a way to go!
