heavily listed Dear sirs,I have recently purchased from beneteau a brand new beneteau 57 feet boat and since my purchase date after I took the delivery(in very bad weather conditions)I now noticed that she is always listed to the port side by about 5 degrees.I have no extra ordered which can create this listing.I have been in contact with local dealer for about two months and they seems they did not pay too much attention to this problem and the only solution they proposed is to put some extra lead to the starboard side which I rejected on the basis that this would mak ethe boat even more unstable.I believe we will go to court very shortly with beneteau as the boat does not even seems seaworthy to me and can be extremely dangerous to face heavy weather conditions with her.Are there any other 57 owners who faced such problem I really would like to hear or is anyone who have a clue why such listing might appear.anybody who experienced this in other boats also might be helpful with their experience tolga bicer

Possible Answer

How is your boat equipped and are there were any additional items added such as generators, refrigeration, batteries, etc. after purchase? I don't know if it's related, but I have a 3 degree list to the port. The cause of mine is that there are two additional batteries, refrigeration, galley and galley supplies, the weight of the coolers and contents, and water heater plus all of the junk that is in the port lazarette. The reason all of that stuff is on the port side is that there wasn't space for it on the starboard. It's always been my intention to add lead ballast to the starboard to offset the imbalance, just never gotten around to it. This may not be the answer to your problem, but it would be something to consider. 5 degrees does seen like a lot for a boat that size, especially if no add ons are a factor. Good Luck, let us know what your find out if anything.

I also have a slight list to starboard caused I am sure by my three gel batteries. How could I offset this list...with lead weights or some other method?

Tankage

Guys, I have a 2 to 3 degree list as a result of my galley, batteries and cockpit lazarette being on the port side. I'd suggest compensating for this by managing tankage before I'd add lead. Lead is toxic & it's going to add unnecessary weight to the boat. I can keep the boat flat by emptying my port holding tank and filling the starboard water tank. This keeps the boat flat while sailing. I don't worry about this list when I'm at the dock. As for seaworthyness, I don't think even a 5 degree list would affect the seaworthyness of a 57' boat. If you're in weather that's so bad a 57 footer is going to go down because of an extra 5 degrees, it's the captain's fault for going out in that mess, not the manufacturer. However, I would be upset if I just bought a brand new boat & the thing didn't sit right in the water. There's a lot of equipment on a 57' boat that can be moved around below decks. Perhaps they can position things so she sits right. Let us know how it works out. Allen Schweitzer s/v Falstaff C-30 Hull# 632

C30 all list to port

my C30 lists to port and It is from all my wifes junk that she must have. This year I moved stuff around to fix my problem .If the boat seamed sea worthy I would think about placeing aflex water tank in the center of the boat on the stbd side. From your main sink line put avalve in so it pumps from one tank to the flex tank and join the vent lines with a tee you will have extra water, and when you are loaded with extra gear you can adjust your list to ride flat . PS Ithink water is better then lead But I feel that you spent big money for a New Ben 57' and that it should sit flat in the water or they need to have a good reason why it dose not . This is abig boat and it takes alot weight to throw it off My C 30 needed 300lbs moved around . good luck John Olson
