heater

When I bought my 1976 Vega (Southern Comfort Too) there was a unit in
a box that says it is a heater. Being in south Texas, heat is not a
necessary item. I don't know if it is complete, but it is a
Shipmate, most likely it came with the original boat. Does anyone
have any information about them? I have check the internet but can't
seem to locate the company any more, maybe they went out of business.
If I can find out if we have all of it and how it works I will check
it out and either find a home for it or throw it out.

Hi Carol. I really don't know but it might have been made by Dickerson of
Force 10. 3 basic kinds of heaters; propane has a burner, diesel or kerosene
has a cup underneath the burner to preheat the fuel to get it to vaporize
and a drip system to dispense the fuel for burning or has no burner and is
meant for wood or charcoal. Did it come with a tank?

Hi Carol.
Well - I don't think I am right, but Shipmate is the name of a former radio equipment factory in Denmark (just a little south of Sweden - and the real Vikings live here)
Are you sure it is a heater ? - could perhaps be a transmitting unit for short wave or vhf radio.
Happy sailing (what else is possible in a Vega)

Carol, I have an inboard coal burning heater installed on the starboard bulkhead on Vega 3233 and it works great but you must install a chimney=imney when you install the heater.
