Pulled the engine zinc out. Lo and behold, the socket the brass plug screwed into disintegrated. So now I need to find out if I can fix this without spending all my dinghy money.

1983 Universal M-25 heat exchanger. Can this be fixed or am I stuck dropping a half a boat unit on a new one?

Bring it to a radiator shop and they should be able to braze on a new brass nut.

If you need a new HX I highly recommend upgrading from the original 2" HX to the new 3" style. Your boat will run cooler and not over heat when you push it..

Here's one with the paint off..

Thanks Maine,

I'll try that if the heat exchanger is still in good enough shape when I get it out. I appreciate the photo.
