How can you get at the tubes in the heat exchanger for cleaning? There is an end cap on the exchanger on a 3GM30F. Do I simply remove the cap and rod out the tubes? Is there a gasket or 0-ring that I should have ready to re-install? Do I need to remove the exchanger altogether and scrub both sides of the tubes? I have not been able to find information. Before I remove the end cap, please advise?

You'd do well to obtain the engine service manual which has step-by-step instructions. You might also consider doing the exhaust elbow at the same time.
This pic will give you an idea of the generic process

Hey James,
I like Don service manual idea, and if you have some $$$ extra, buy the part manual, wich I did.
Now, there's a front seal + a O ring type with a V in it to separate the chambers, may as well get both ends. Take the center part out of the exchanger (the one that as all the tubes), find yourself a 22 caliber rifle cleaning kit, and there you go !!! You just saves yourself many $$$. By the way, you can have a radiator shop clean it for you but take care that they don't let it sit in there acid basin too long, cause there an aluminium part it this that will melt before the brass get all rid of the calcium part.

And again, like Don suggested, get your elbow cleaned at the same time.

Let me know !!!
