Does anyone out there have any experience with installing a water heater/heat exchanger in a 5411. I have mine connected into the outlet coming out of the thermosthat. The other hose coming from the heat exchanger connects into the exhaust overboard that goes into the aqua-lift muffler. Is this correct?

Raw Water Heated Hot Water Heater

Not sure if this is wat you want...but on my boat we rerouted the hot raw water to the hot water heater then from the water heater to the T on the raw water intake.... I'm sure it has shortened the life of the water heater, and the water never gets super hot...but it has worked without fail for over 10 years now. Sure makes for a nicer showering experience when on the hook overnight...

Instructions?

I would have thought that there would have been instructions for the heat exchanger. If not, I would contact the manufacturer. I assume that you are using this for hot water. What you want to do is connect it to the sealed FRESH WATER part of your cooling system. Have the coolant run through your waterheater. It ( the coolant) is designed to sap off heat, and then dump it as soon as it hits something cooler (the water in your water heater). This is a very efficient system. On weekend outings, I have a tankfull of 150 degree or hotter water after running the engine for less than 20 minutes.

Water Heater Hookup

I have the 5411 and the water heater feed line comes from the Thermostat, and the return then goes to the mixing tee. This is a Freshwater system only without a closed type heat exchanger. The thermostat controls the temperature of the water and allows fresh water in when needed. Engine temp is usually 150 degrees. This makes for some nice hot water that requires mixing with cold, increasing the useable tank size of the heater. Be careful and ENJOY a hot Shower.

THANKS , HEAT EXCHANGER ON 5411

MY 5411 IS RAW WATER COOLED. THIS IS WHAT I DID. I INSTALLED A LIMITER VALVE BETWEEN THE THERMOSTAT AND THE MIXING TEE IN THE RE-CIRCULATION HOSE. (THE THERMOSTAT HAS TWO OUTLETS. ONE GOES TO THE MIXING TEE, THE OTHER GOES TO THE EXAUST OVERBOARD.) THE HOT SIDE OF THE THERMOSTAT GOES TO THE EXAUST OVERBOARD, AQUA-LIFT MUFFLER AND THEM OUT WITH THE EXAUST. THE CONCEPT IS THIS: I START THE MOTOR WITH THE LIMITER VALVE OPEN. AFTER THE ENGINE HAS WARMED UP; I SHUT THE LIMITER VALVE. THIS FORCES THE HOT WATER TO EXIT OUT THE THERMOSTAT WITH MORE FORCE. THE ONLY PLACE FOR THE WATER TO GO IS TO THE WATER HEATER/HEAT EXCHANGER. THE RETURN HOSE FROM THE WATER HEATER/HEAT EXCHANGER IS ROUTED TO THE EXAUST OVERBOARD/AQUA-LIFT MUFFLER AND OUT. IF THIS DOESN'T GIVE ME HOT WATER THEN I'AM GOING TO TRY RESPONSE # 1 AND THEN 3. RESPONSE # 2 IS NOT APPLICABLE SINCE MY SYSTEM ISN'T CLOSED. MANY THANKS TO ALL 3 OF YOU FOR RESPONDING. YTOUR IDEAS ARE VERY HELPFUL. BIG-O
