How far have you healed your 26M over? I know the comfort angle for us is no more then 15 degrees. When there have been just two of us, have been over 35 degrees (rail touching the water). How far have you been over and still felt in control and safe?

Up to you

Years ago, my sailing instructor liked to sail on the rail. He thought that was fastest. It was the most exciting. Modern thought is that sailboats are more efficient with less heel. This way the hull, keel, sail and rudders are fully engaged and not dumping air and water. This also helps those whose comfort factors scream at high angles. But you get used to it and can like the heel. I have sailed my x at extreme heel plenty of times and believe that these boats automatically adjust for excessive heel by losing efficiency. Personally, I doubt if it is possible to lay it flat without a combination of high wave action and a big gust of wind. And I doubt if these boats ever turn turtle without a hole in the hull. The Mac videotape shows a 26 which has been pulled by the top of the mast almost 90 degrees and then released. The boat pops back up like a punching bag. Bottom line, if it feels good, do it. Check your knots to see speed. Ain't sailin' great?
