had some connectors bend on my old harken roller furling jib. Harken says ill probably have to replace the stay along with the foils, connectors, etc. (they dont make the old rollpin ones anymore). My question, How do I get a replacement stay? Anyone know any tricks to get the old one out? The connectors at the top and bottom prevent the connector from sliding off of the stay but the foils will. If i cut the stay, can i get the stay connectors reattached somehow? Thanks!

Contact Hunter

I replaced mine a few years ago, and still have the ouiginal in my attic at home. If you want it to keep the mast in place til you get a new furling system, I will send it to you for the cost of shipping.I contacted Hunter, they referred me to the original supplier, I bought my new one from them. Old stay did not fail, but we were rasing at the time and new standing rigging seemed prudent.my E mail is jkksail@tidalwave.com

Inspect before you replace

Most roller furlers (even older ones) come in sections and can be dissambled and taken apart without damaging the stay. If the stay shows no kinks and is not stretched yours is probably OK. For safety of the mind, I would take my stay to a rigging shop and have it inspected. Worse case scenario they can make you another one of the same size and length. Good Luck

No problem

My H34 was delivered with aslight bend in the lower section of the furler. Profurler sent me a new one and the yard installed it in one day. The used the halyards to hold the mast while the took the head stay off (3 guys with one in the chair at the top of the mast). Layed the stay out, cut about 1/4 inch off the top to release the jam stop, replaced the furler section and put all back for me to sail that evening.
