I just ordered new sails for my 1986 H23. I received quotes from 4 saillofts (North, Sabre, Doyle, UK) for a main and jib. I agonized over what size headsail to buy. I have always sailed with the stock 110 lapper, except in heavy air, where I find the boat points better with a heavy 80% jib. I thought I wanted a roller furling 135, but after talking to other H23 owners, I decided on a good quality 110 hank-on lapper with a very good quality moderate roach mainsail from Doyle. I selected Doyle's premium square weave dacron fabric. I'm also going to get a assymetrical spinnaker for lighter air (0-10kt). My decision to stay with the 110 hank on lapper is based on the fact that I singlehand most of the time, and I like the simplicity and reliablility of hank-on sails. I have generally been happy with the performance of the 110 lapper in winds over 10 kt. I agree that reputable sailmakers are full of good advice. Each of these sailmakers spent quite a bit of time with me over the phone. I picked Doyle because I felt that sales associate was more concerned about matching the sails to the kind of sailing I do. I routinely cruise along the coast for 7 or 8 days at a time, and racing is not really my thing. Because of this, I chose to stick with the 110 lapper. If you like to race, you'll probably want something a little larger. There are several discussions about headsails for H23's in the archives. I posted a note back in October or November and got several responses.Good LuckDan Bickford"Charlie Weaver"
