I am looking at purchasing an O'day 240 that the owner has told me that he has put in a new porta-potti type head..I have looked at another 240 that appeared to have somewhat of an original equipment type head installed. What are the differences if any?..I am a prospective first time owner and haved no experience with this and am trying to make a wise purchase decision..Can you shed some light on subject?

Don't base a boat buying decision on a toilet

That would be the equivilent of basing a car buying decision on the type of wheel covers. If the toilet is more than 10 years old, it's prob'ly worn out, even if it still seems to work. But an old toilet can easily be replaced...possibly WITH a portapotty...they're easier to maintain. What matters is the condition of the boat, the rigging, the sails...how well the boat has been maintained...etc. Get someone involved who knows what questions to ask and what to look for and buy the boat that's in the best overall condition...or walk away from both and keep looking if necessary. THEN decide what if anything needs to be done about the toilet. And once you've bought a boat, the link below should come in very handy.

O'day 24 head

Thanx Peggie for the link...Not having any experience in boat buying,I just do not want to buy something that might have been modified in some cheap or negative way.

Head w/holding tank in a 240

I had a 240 for 14 years and it came from the factory with a cheaper Jabsco head and a small (10-12 gallon?) holding tank. The toilet eventually went bad after 10-11 years and I replaced it with another toilet -- a relatively simple job. I suppose you could put a port-a-potty in there -- but it was easy to just do a pump out 2-3 times a season.
