Heading to Florida by way of ICW to New orleans

Planing to leave Galveston Bay early Nov and I am looking for anyone who has done the ditich to new orleans to map out a strategy for 50 mile legs. Dont want to run it at night, so need to know where we can spend the nite. I expect it to take about a week. Also kind of concerned about the current in the Mississippi when we have to negoatiate the locks, love to get some feedback on this. We have a late model 45 ft sailboat with a 75 horse engine. Any info woud be appreciated.

i have made that trip twice before, once each way would be glad to share what i learned, although it has been 20 years . have been researching it lately for a trip this year. my boat is at south shore harbor pier4 , slip 42

I made this trip

I came up to New Orleans from S. Texas a few years ago. There are some good anchorages along the way, but some long stretches also. I tied up a couple of nights to the barge dolphins, with no one bothering me. There are quite a few along the way. The river isn't bad, unless it's way up. When you come out of the Harvey lock into the river, get across ASAP. The exit from the river is a little hard to spot, so you need to be over on that side. All boat traffic through there is radio controlled, and you will see a sign telling you when you enter the controlled area.
