Bob

We are considering heading south for some extended cruising in the Caribean. I would appreciate some feedback from others that have taken Hunters south for an extended period of time. I'm particularly interested in what problems you had with your boat, what modifications you made to the boat that worked well (or not) and other gear or modifications you would recommend based upon your experience. Thanks!

Carribean Sailing

I am stationed with the Navy in Puerto Rico and we sail our Hunter 40.5 throughout the Virgin Islands. There are no pump out stations in the Carribean Water is somewhat expensive Get some sun shades, the sun is impressive AC is nice in the summer, not realy needed in the winter. If you have any specific questions, let me know, I will try to help. The sailing is great, GO FOR IT!

Caribbean

I sail my 260 in the Northern part of the Caribbean with no problems at all. However a Bimini Top, sunshades and plenty of water and money to pay the officials. Water is the big thing. Take far more than you think you will need, even if you carry it in jerry cans.

Bob, let me know how to get a hold of you....

Send me an email I'll give you my number we can compare notes... We're hauling out at Dionnes tomorrow after a nearby lightning strike. Going to take the oportuniy to install a dynaplate for the SSB/Ham radio. The Boat is Rantum Scoot we're up in Dover so you probably haven't seen her unless in the river. Where is your boat? What's her name? Scott

Going south

Bob, I have not gotten as far as the Carrib, but I did do a big piece of the ICW last fall and I assume you will be too because of when you are leaving. Check you insurance policy. Some carriers don't want the boat south of Norfolk Va until 11/1. Have at least 2 50ft lines for use going through locks. You don't tie off. You loop the lines. Be prepared to use 2 anchors most nights. Buy several ICW guides - they tend to compliment each other. Skipper Bob or Cap'n Bob I can't remember which, was the most current and is updated annually.

3 months in the Bahamas

Bob, I took off last year from April to April. I traveled along the East Coast, Maine to Florida, and I spent 3 months in the Bahamas. I kept my log on the web, so you can read about my experience day-by-day. Go to http://svfinn.home.att.net. John
