Head Teak Grates

I bought the Admiral a set of grates for the head for Mothers day. We already have a set for the cockpit on our C-385....and we are using TeakGuard....so far so good!!
But I am wondering what guys are using for head grates which are out of the weather. Teak oil? Semco? ( which is similar to Teakguard). Teakguard will wear.
Just curious if teak oil will. Not doing Sikkens.
Thx

Doug

Wow are you lucky to still be able to post this. Exceptional Admiral you have there. Give her whatever she wants.

Doug, congratulations, and, nice, very nice, boat.

The finish should be chosen carefully. As you most already know, different coatings for teak have a wide range of adherents, as well as (some of us, sometimes me included ) heretics!

Basic choices are: Let it go gray or put something on it.

That something has to be carefully considered because of "traction" due to its intended use.

Research that in detail and then decide, since some coatings end up being very slippery, the LAST thing you want in this application.

Good luck.

Thx, Stu....I have admired your posts and expertise for years. The C34 forum is second to none.
The TeakGuard seems to have pretty good traction, even wet. So Ill probably go with that. It does wear tho.
You are right...the 385 is one heck of a sailor. :)

We had a teak grate in the head of our C34. I thought about putting oil on it but waited to see how it would weather. Turned out it didn't in three years. So, I would wait to see what happens.
