I changing the stool out with all the hoses soon. The foot print on new stool is different, and will need to drill new holes. Is there a steel backing plate in the fiberglass or is it just fiberglass?

John: I try to reuse holes if possible. Be sure to put caulking in the unused holes so water does not get into the platform.

The chance that the next toilet will exactly fit the left-over holes is low. Just plan to fill them with thickened epoxy. Redrill for the new lag bolts.

Chances are that the platform is molded fiberglass -- probably does not have wood under. And that's good because if there was water wandering around the base over time that old wood would have rotted, anyway.

All the Hunters I have changed head in have had a fiberglass over plywood base.

It is a good idea to seal the old holes if they cannot be reused. Caulk or epoxy, I don't think it makes any difference other than looks.
