Head replumb: vented loop or straight to tank?

I am replumbing the head on my 1987 Catalina 27. The holding tank is under the V berth and the connection to the toilet pump is high on the starboard side. The previous owner had a "rube goldberg" set up that failed and the head hadnt been used in years. Should I 1)plumb from the Groco pump to the tank with a direct line for simplicity (but vulnerable to heel and joker valve failure), 2)add a vented loop, or 3) get a new tank with the connection in the center of the tank?

vented loop

assuming the head is below the waterline you should have a vented loop. But I don't on mine. I make sure the thru-hull is off whenever at sea (except when using the head...and then it shuts right off again). I believe in simplicity, but of course if you are forgetful, then a vented loop is the way to go. Happy New Year! -Rob
