Endeavour 40 Corpus Christi
Hi all. I have a recently purchased Endeavour 40 with fore and aft heads. Both heads are original, stink badly. Both holding tanks are under berths, and only 15 gal. I already pulled out the aft head and trashed it, but the foreward is waiting to be replaced.

My first thought was to put in Sealand products, I guess because I thought they would be the best. But to put in 2 vac flush systems... ah to much money.

We are a family of 4, 2 kids. Wife uses head a lot at night. I do not like smells at all. So a quiet, odor free system is desired.

I ordered peggys book today, and should get it soon. I have a good working knowledge of marine sanitation. (at least I think so) but want to make sure I do this right the first time, so I am asking for help.

I want the largest tank system, the quietest heads, and easy to install and maintain systems I can get.
While I would like to have 1 holding tank, centrally located, The area I have to work with is not the best. I pulled one water tank out, located under the sole in the salon, and it is 11 inches deep at the mid point, 5" deep at the sides. But running hose from the aft head to it would mean a run of 25 feet or so, pricey, and adding odor.
Or I can just place them where they orginally were, I can put 28 gal. in the forepeak, and 15 gal aft.
We are marina bound for now. OSD is not a option.

What holding tank manufactor is best at this time? I have the ronco catalog but I find it hard to figure out, as they are in no rational (to me) order.

Should I put 2 holding tanks 1 for each head ? Or try to fit a central tank and hope for the best on odor with the long hose run ?

I am thinking now of Raitan Alantes Freedom electric fresh water head for the aft head, and a Raritan PH11 manual toilet for the foreward toilet, or a lavac manual.

Any input would be well appreciated.

Bob & Peggie,

I have many of the same questions as Bob. I am doing a refit on a Heritage 46. Bob, would you share Peggy's answers? Also, my current setup has a 14.5 gallon Nauta bladder which is connected to the forward head. Any comments on bladders for holding tanks?

Thank you,
Steve

Every boat/situation is unique...

People have widely different needs and budgets, even if the boats are identical...So my advice to Bob may not work for you--which is why I helped him sort out the best solutions for HIS boat offline instead of here. And I'll be glad to do the same for you if you want me to. Send me a PM and I'll reply with contact info.

About that bladder tank... Bladders are ok for water and even fuel, but they aren't recommended for waste holding 'cuz they're prone to chafing and leaking and even blowing out fittings at the first sign of a clog or blocked vent. So it needs to go.

Peggy thanks so much for your time the other day.
I have deceided to go with the raritan Sea Era head, as the Tecma will not fit on my step in the head without a lot of cutting and rebuilding.
The holding tank is still a issue, as trying to find one for my situation is dificult, as I want the largest that will fit in the space.
Ronco has one that is 22 gal, that will fit, but todd has one that is 20 gal for half the price.
What do you think about Todd holding tanks ?
My main concern is that the tanks are predrilled and I would need to redrill, with a potential leak spot where the old holes were.

Also it seems that while Corpus Christi bay is not a NDZ, my marina says it is against policy for me to discharge waste even treated in the marina. So a purasan will not work for me at the marina, but will when we cruise. I think I will go with just a holding tank system for now, and add the purasan later.

Best to you and your father.

Ronco tanks are at least 50% thicker

And they install fittings in the sizes and locations spec'd by the customer when they make the tank.

If you go with the Todd, the tank will have to be supported on all vertical sides as well as the bottom or it'll bulge when full. So the supports could reduce the space and therefore the size tank that'll fit.

Let's talk again about this and other issues.

One thing, generally if you have two heads on a boat, IMHO, it is better to have two separate holding tanks to help keep the waste lines short. Long horizontal waste lines that let waste sit in them, tend to stink—since the hoses permeate more quickly, and tend to clog more quickly—since the waste sits in them. The only way to prevent that is to flush the lines clear and that generally causes the holding tank to fill more quickly.

OK Peggy, after we talked about it again, I called my marina and they do allow type 1 msd's, so I will be installing the purasan soon. The ronco tank was made but waiting to ship so Rich at Ronco will install the pickups, So I can have 2.
I think after looking at the heads, that I am leaning towards the Rairitan Elegance.
The foot print will fit and with the sloped back should fit well.
I may just use a purasan for the aft head without a tank to simplify things for now.
